How a build works

  1. Site walk & quote. We walk the yard, talk through use and budget, and write the number down.
  2. Design & layout. Shape, shelves, falls and plant shelves marked in the yard before we dig.
  3. Excavation, liner, filtration, stone. Our own crew, with Jon on site.
  4. Fill, plant, startup & walkthrough. We start the system and walk you through how to live with it.

FAQ

How much does it cost to build a pond in Pinehurst or Southern Pines?
Ecosystem ponds start from $9,500 for an 8×10 Essential. Signature with a stream and lighting starts from $12,800. Larger ponds and site work cost more, and Jon confirms the number after a walk of your yard. See the full package specs for what each size includes.
Do I need a permit to build a backyard pond in Moore County?
It depends on where you live and what the pond includes. NC's pool fencing rules are written for structures meant for swimming, not garden or koi ponds, but any new outlet or wired pump and lighting circuit needs an electrical permit and a licensed electrician. Some towns and counties also want a zoning or development permit for digging, setbacks or septic areas, and many neighborhoods need HOA approval first. Rules differ in Moore, Lee and Cumberland counties and in towns like Pinehurst, Southern Pines and Fayetteville, so check with your local planning office and your HOA before you build. We'll go over what likely applies at your site walk.
Is pond building different in Fayetteville?
Yes. We build in Fayetteville with the same packages and starting prices, and there is no travel fee. Soil and site access can affect the final quote. Jon confirms that number after the design consult on your lot. Pond builder in Fayetteville.
What type of pond should I build?
An ecosystem pond is the low-maintenance natural look most yards want. Choose a koi pond when you want a larger, deeper fish pond with a bottom drain. A pondless waterfall gives you the sound of water without an open pond.
How long does it take to build a pond?
Most package builds take about 2 to 8 days on site, depending on size, after the design consult and scheduling. Larger yards and extra stone work can run longer. Jon is on site for every build.
What's included in the price?
The price includes excavation, liner and underlayment, a skimmer and biological filter, pump and plumbing, and fieldstone. Signature adds a stream, lighting and starter plants. Site access and stone can move the number after the walk.
What equipment goes into a build?
We use pro-grade pumps, skimmers, biological filters and EPDM liner, sized and matched to your pond so it stays clear with less work. Every proposal lists the equipment in writing so you can see what goes in before we start.
What happens after the build?
After startup we offer seasonal cleanouts, checks and repairs. You can book those as one-time visits or as a care plan. See Care Packages and pond maintenance for how that works.
